Our Story
Nestled in idylic Waters Upton, a village in North Shropshire, the Morgan family has farmed and been Master Butchers for over 200years.
Our Master Butcher – Darren Morgan is the fourth generation of the Morgan Family.
The Butchery moved ½ mile down the road from the family farm in 1856 to the Chestnuts, and it’s exactly where we are today.
The Butchery has gone from being an abattoir to a retail farm shop, with a team of dedicated craft butchers & staff including Darren’s eldest daughter, Lauren.
Darren began working in the family business at the age of 12, learning the Craft from his father & uncle, just as they had before him.
Darren”s expertise and skill soon shone and the passion became evident. He takes those forgotten cuts and time honoured techniques of traditional butchery and uses them alongside forward thinking seam butchery and innovation.
Thus providing ‘nose-to-tail’ craft butchery, where not an ounce of the carcass is wasted.
Darren has also developed an award-winning knowledge in the artisan skills of curing, smoking and charcuterie.
We believe strongly in “whole story” provenance,
sourcing our meat from established Shropshire farms directly, or through our local livestock auction. We are proud to support Shropshire farmers who share our commitment to husbandry, welfare and outstanding quality. Ultimately, we know, trust and respect the farmers we buy from.
Renowned for our sausages, (national Supreme Champion and Britain’s Best Sausage!) bacon, Dry-aged Beef, Heritage Lamb and Rare Breed Pork, our shop has everything you’d expect from an award-winning, independent butcher.
What we have created here at Morgan’s is something special. It’s more than just a Butchers Shop, its craft, tradition, innovation and family. I’m incredibly proud to be a Master Butcher and I couldn’t be prouder of those who stand beside me.
